I think the document above has a mistake. ...Terri,
I think the document above has a mistake. (I will fix it.) It looks like the Sarah who married a Charlie Hutchins was the daughter of Levi Naramore (1824-1888) and Celia Hopkins. At least that is how I have it in my tree now. Narmore in Perry County and Edward Jr. I will take a look at the DNA and see what I can find. I was getting so many matches with Lt. John's family that I was starting to think that way. Which line are you from?Clay B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08652246190695262025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721814678723967623.post-28389078920854271952019-03-22T05:32:04.578-05:002019-03-22T05:32:04.578-05:00Clay: Apologies for the lengthy message, but I st...Clay: Apologies for the lengthy message, but I still believe you are right that Joseph could not have been John's son. The family record in the pension application appears to be complete for the children of the first marriage to Mary Walker. Joseph was too old to have been the son of Nancy Adkins, John's second wife.

More likely, he was a son of Edward Narramore (say Jr), John's brother, and his wife, Marion Kennington. In 1800 Edward Jr was living in Lancaster County, SC with two males under ten in his household. Various records show Edward Jr continuing in Lancaster County until the 1830 census. After 1830 there are no further records for Edward Jr.

However, Edward Jr's wife Marion Kennington appears in the 1840 census of Perry County, AL (Mary A Narrymore); 1850 census of Marion township, Perry County, AL (Mary Narrowmore); and 1860 census of Marion, Perry, AL (Mary A Naramore). There is a Find-a-grave site that shows a Mary Ann Narramore buried in Tuscaloosa, which is the location of some of Joseph's descendants.

As for evidence supporting this, the 1850 census shows her living next door to the family of Burrell Holly. Edward Sr's will indicates that he had an unnamed daughter who married a Holly. This Holly is likely to be Marion's nephew. In the 1860 census, she is next door to Mary Cannington (Kennington) who will prove to be her granddaughter.

The smoking gun that ties all this together is a newspaper article appearing in various newspapers concerning a grisly quadruple murder that took place in Marion, Alabama on 21 June 1866. Here is the article if this link works: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/3883254/harrisburg_telegraph/.

The article identifies the murder Mrs. Mary Kennington (the granddaughter), her two children, and her aunt, Mrs. Kennington's aunt, Becky Narramore. Sleeping in the house and unmolested was "a very old lady," thought to be the grandmother of Mrs. Kennington and the mother of Becky Narramore.

I believe the two males less than 10 in the 1800 census for Edward Narramore Jr were Joseph and Alfred. Alfred is in the 1840 Perry County, AL census on the page before Marion. I suspect Marion moved west to be near her son after Edward Jr died sometime after 1830 back in SC. Alfred's 1840 census shows a female age 5-10 who is the perfect age to have married a Kennington relative and been murdered in 1866.

As for ending up in Tuscaloosa, I figure that with the remaining family of one son (Alfred) having been wiped out, she moved up to Tuscaloosa to be near grandchildren by her other son (Joseph). At least that is how I have reconstructed this family. I am currently heavily involved in trying to find the connection of my Narramore relative, Edward Narmour, who appears in Mississippi about 1850, supposedly from Tennessee by way of Alabama. With the DNA results that are available now, I hope to be able to finally piece the families of Edward Narramore Sr together in a way that makes sense. Thanks for your comment. I was in error about the will. I was working from memory and I thought Lt. John's children were all listed somewhere? From his pension? Land records? And I was wrong about him having a son named Joseph. Sorry for the misinformation! I thought I had discovered a reason who Joseph could not be John's son but now I am having trouble reconstructing my reasoning.Clay B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08652246190695262025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721814678723967623.post-13149767628046700082019-03-06T11:16:45.876-06:002019-03-06T11:16:45.876-06:00JOSEPH, Father of John,b.1822.JOSEPH, Father of John,b.1822.Gary Narmore, gnarmore@gmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02508828810666776843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721814678723967623.post-41700017786328691852019-01-27T09:27:40.832-06:002019-01-27T09:27:40.832-06:00Clay: Great post on the family of Joseph Narramor...Clay: Great post on the family of Joseph Narramore. I agree completely with your analysis that Joseph cannot be a son of Lt. John Narramore. I have a question or two, perhaps you can help me.

1st: You mention the will of Lt. John Narramore which names his children. I have not seen this and wonder if you can point out where to find a copy.

2nd: You mention that Lt. John Narramore has another son named Joseph. I am not aware of that also. Is your reference the will? Or can you provide a source?

Regards--Louis OgdenAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10843371306478702924noreply@blogger.com
